Push-over Analysis of RC Shear Walls With Different Coupling Characteristics
The term shear wall coupling lends itself from the existence of openings in an individual wall or in presence of connecting media between aligned walls. In this paper, push-over analysis of coupled shear wall (CSW) is carried out using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Different sorts of connecting media including flat slab, dropped beams with isolated rectangular sections and T-shaped sections with and without out-of-plane restraints are investigated under various types of loading. The degree of unsymmetry along with off-line coupling as well as staggered arrangement of openings is considered in the parametric study. In addition, Winkler type support of walls is analyzed for idealizing elastic foundation. The influence of walls design parameters including concrete grade and reinforcement is investigated. The results address some of the salient features of coupled shear wall systems that should be considered in the design.
